Florida Urged to Prepare as Atlantic Hurricane Season Approaches
With hurricane season set to begin on June 1, preparedness is becoming a top priority for families, businesses and coastal communities across the state.
Florida is entering one of the most important periods of the year for emergency planning as the Atlantic hurricane season approaches. According to the National Hurricane Center, the Atlantic hurricane season officially runs from June 1 through November 30.
As of early May, there were no tropical cyclones in the Atlantic, but regular Tropical Weather Outlooks are scheduled to resume on May 15 or as necessary.
Why Preparation Matters
For Florida residents, hurricane preparedness is not only about major storms. It also includes planning for power outages, flooding, transportation disruptions, insurance needs and emergency communication.
In Florida, preparation before hurricane season can make the difference between panic and protection.
Emergency officials typically encourage residents to review insurance coverage, prepare supplies, monitor official alerts and have a family communication plan before a storm is in the forecast.
Businesses are also watching closely, especially in tourism, real estate, construction, logistics and coastal hospitality — industries that can be directly affected by severe weather.
Florida Pulse will continue to monitor hurricane season updates and weather alerts affecting communities across the state.
